Roman Kreuziger trains on Cervinia´s Hairpins
Milan, Italy, May 1st, 2012 – After taking sixth place in the GC at the Tour de Romandie, Roman Kreuziger yesterday endured a tough day’s training on the route of stage 14 of the Giro d’Italia, from Cherasco to Cervinia. During the session Kreuziger tackled the final 70km of the stage, taking in both the Col de Joux and the 2,000m climb to Cervinia. Astana Team Manager Giuseppe Martinelli accompanied Kreuziger and gave us his impressions: “This course inspection has been very useful. The elevation profile does not do justice to the difficulties of the final kilometres, particularly the incredibly tough climb to the finish in Cervinia. This stage could have a major impact on the general classification, since if a rider is not quite at 100% he could fall significantly behind.” Turning to the team’s recent performance at the Tour de Romandie, Martinelli said: “Aside from the good results, we came to realise that we have got a very strong and confident team for the Giro d’Italia. Roman showed some good signs, with his sixth place in the general classification and especially by coming fifth in the final time trial, where he was only beaten by riders who specialise in racing against the clock. Likewise, Brajkovič is improving ahead of the main event at the Tour de France. At long last he looked confident in his abilities and we hope he is on the right track to hit top condition at the Tour.” Pro Team Astana
