Roman Kreuziger third in stage two Giro del TrentinoPro Team Astana took the race to the competition once again today at the second stage of the Giro del Trentino. The Kazakh team dictated the pace and thinned down the field right up to the finish in Sant’Orsola, where Roman Kreuziger sprinted home to take third place. Astana team manager Giuseppe Martinelli gave us his view of the race: “Our downhill attack created an elite group of about 20 riders, four of whom were our guys. We carried on pushing right to the finale where Kreuziger got a good result, finishing just behind two riders who had a little more spark at the end. The team raced well today and even though we’re still not hitting top form, there are some good signs ahead of the Giro d’Italia. Roman, meanwhile, is definitely on form! I hope the bad weather that we had today and are expecting for the coming days do not hinder his performances. I have a feeling that Kreuziger can play a major role in Sunday’s stage to Punta Veleno, particularly because he looked really good going uphill today, even though such a tough incline is better suited to pure climbers.” Roman Kreuziger now sits in second place in the general classification for the Giro del Trentino, trailing BMC’s Mathias Frank by three seconds.
