Online 3ª etapa
Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale) no da tregua y continúa con su pleno, tres victorias en tres etapas, en el Tour de California al volver a ganar en la tercera en Livermore y de nuevo sobre Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Barracuda) y con la novedad de Tom Boonen en la tercera plaza.
El ciclista eslovaco suma y sigue y no ha dejado pasar una nueva oportunidad, aunque esta vez ha tenido que remontar y ha superado a Haussler con más apuros que en los días anteriores. Por supuesto, se mantiene en el liderato.
Duarte (Colombia-Coldeportes) y Roche (Ag2r) han intentado sorprender en el alto de Pattersson Pass (3ª), a menos de 15 kilómetros de la línea de llegada, pero el trabajo de Liquigas, Garmin y Rabobank ha enterrado sus opciones.
Y en una nueva llegada al sprint, Sagan ha sometido a sus rivales especialmente a Haussler, por tercer día consecutivo también segundo, y Boonen.
La fuga de la jornada, de 185,5 kilómetros entre San José y Livermore, la han protagonizado Vennell (Bissel), Marentes (Colombia-Coldeportes), Salas (Kelly Benefit) y McCarty (Spidertech). Los dos primeros han sido cazados a 23 kilómetros.
El jueves se disputa la cuarta etapa entre Sonora y Clovis sobre un recorrido de 209,5 kilómetros y cinco altos de montaña (uno de 2ª, dos de 3ª y dos de 4ª), aunque lejos de meta.
